Himalayan nettle is a natural plant fibre obtained from Girardinia diversifolia, a nettle species found in the Himalayan region. Its fibres have a long history of being prepared and used for textiles in Nepal.

Himalayan nettle has a distinctive natural texture that can feel different from cotton or conventional knitwear. The feel varies with the yarn, knitting technique and finish. Some pieces may become more supple with wear and appropriate care.

Everyone’s skin responds differently to materials. Although Himalayan nettle is a natural fibre, we cannot guarantee that it will suit all skin types. If you have particularly sensitive skin, we recommend considering the garment’s texture before purchasing.

Like many natural textiles, Himalayan nettle may develop a softer, more relaxed feel with use. Its appearance and texture will depend on how the garment is worn, washed and stored.

Our current Himalayan nettle collection is hand-spun and hand-knitted in Nepal using traditional textile skills. As Loomaama grows, production methods may vary between collections. Each product description will identify the relevant techniques.

Yes, on a delicate cold cycle. We recommend using a laundry bag for extra protection and reshaping the garment gently before air drying.

Avoid tumble drying unless the garment’s care label specifically permits it. For pieces requiring flat drying, gently reshape and lay them on a clean, dry surface away from direct heat.

Always check the garment’s care instructions before ironing or steaming. Heat and moisture can affect natural fibres and knitted structures, so avoid applying heat unless the method and temperature are specifically recommended.

Light steaming is usually the gentlest option. If ironing is needed, use low heat and place a clean cloth between the iron and the garment.

Store your garment clean and completely dry in a cool, well-ventilated place. We recommend folding knitted pieces rather than hanging them for extended periods, as this can help preserve their shape.
